Overview

Inno2Grid is a Corporate Digital Venture Builder that focuses on smart energy solutions for residential environments. Their flagship product, HEMSlogic Gateway, connects home electronic devices such as solar panels, energy storage systems, and electric vehicle chargers to enable real-time energy optimization and compliance with German EnWG §14a standards.

HBM partnered with Inno2Grid to rapidly scale their engineering capacity and deliver a production-ready MVP of the platform. Our team of back-end, front-end, mobile, and DevOps engineers worked alongside Inno2Grid's internal team, covering everything from embedded development and cloud architecture to cross-platform mobile application development and ongoing product enhancements.

Our customers love what we do

"HBM has been a trusted partner for us for many years.

They help us scale our in-house capacity and expertise in ways we could never have achieved without them.

The standard of integrity, reliability, and customer focus that HBM consistently delivers, even during the most challenging periods, truly sets them apart and makes them one of our most valued suppliers."

Client Needs and Challenges:

Inno2Grid needed to move fast. Their goal was to build and launch an MVP for a cloud-based smart home energy management platform while keeping their internal team lean and focused on the product vision.

Client challenges to resolve:

  • Scaling engineering capacity without long hiring cycles. Our client needed experienced back-end, front-end, mobile, and DevOps developers, but couldn't afford the overhead of building a full team in-house. They needed a partner who could embed seamlessly and contribute from day one.
  • Integrating thousands of IoT edge devices. The platform had to communicate with diverse home energy hardware, from smart meters and photovoltaic systems to EV chargers, each with different protocols and data formats.
  • Real-time energy data processing at scale. Optimizing self-consumption in real time required a backend capable of handling high-frequency data streams from distributed devices, with an architecture resilient enough to grow alongside the user base.
  • Building intuitive interfaces across web and mobile. End users needed clear visibility into energy usage, storage, and optimization results across both a web application and a cross-platform mobile app, built from scratch.
  • Meeting German regulatory standards. The platform had to comply with EnWG §14a requirements governing distributed energy resources, adding regulatory precision to every technical decision.

Services Delivered

HBM operated as a full-scope technology partner, responsible for translating Inno2Grid's product vision into a working and scalable platform across embedded, cloud, and user-facing layers.

Embedded Software Development

We implemented the embedded component of the HEMSlogic solution, enabling direct communication between home energy devices and the platform through local data collection and secure cloud transmission.

Back-End Development

HBM.ai built the backend on Python and Azure with a microservices architecture designed for real-time processing of high-frequency energy data streams and horizontal scalability.

Front-End and UI Development

Our team developed the web interface from scratch in Angular, focused on making complex energy data accessible and actionable for non-technical homeowners.

Mobile App Development

We delivered cross-platform mobile applications in React Native, giving users full monitoring and control over their energy consumption and storage on the go.

DevOps

Our DevOps engineers established CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure management practices to support frequent, reliable deployments across all platform components.

IoT Integration

HBM.ai’s team integrated thousands of IoT edge devices, including smart meters, photovoltaic systems, and EV chargers, enabling centralized real-time monitoring and control across connected homes.

Outcomes

The engagement delivered a fully operational energy management platform, from embedded device communication through cloud processing to user-facing applications, with a foundation built for continued growth.

Main project results:

  • Production-ready MVP successfully developed, launched, and in active use
  • Seamless integration with smart meters, photovoltaic systems, and electric vehicle chargers through a unified IoT layer
  • Cross-platform mobile app and web interface providing full visibility and control over home energy systems
  • Scalable Azure-based cloud architecture with microservices, designed to support growing device volumes and expanding feature scope
  • Ongoing product enhancements covering IoT integration, mobile app improvements, and web interface development
